Give with Meaning

Holistic Philanthropy Management

Helping Foundations Give with Meaning

I help foundation founders and leaders build and run their philanthropies.

I have spent nearly two decades working in philanthropy:

  • At the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, where I helped the executive director build up the early grant tracking systems and sourced a grant portfolio to support the local community

  • At the Impact Fund, where I took the application process online, developed grantmaking processes, and grew the team

Feel free to reach out. I would love to discuss your next project!

How It Works

  • What is your philanthropic vision? We will ask you a series of questions so that we can understand your interests and motivations. What matters most to you? Where do you come from? Who made you who you are today? What are the big opportunities that most excite you? Which nonprofits do you most admire? These questions and more will help you articulate your philanthropic passion so that you can move from vision to reality.

  • Next up: crafting your Giving Portfolio, a philanthropic plan that is customized for you. We will match your interests with the already vetted organizations in our database and conduct original research to uncover new opportunities. After we present this plan to you and incorporate your feedback, we will host your foundation’s directors at a virtual board meeting to document all grant decisions. With your philanthropic plan in place, we will be ready to share the love to all the amazing organizations you have selected for your Giving Portfolio.

  • It’s funding day! We will handle all the behind-the-scenes details—processing grant agreements, coordinating payments with your financial advisors, ensuring compliance with IRS rules, and making sure your grantees receive their grants in a timely and efficient manner. When we reach out to let your new grantees know the exciting news, you may choose to communicate the “why” behind your contribution. As the responses roll in, you will see firsthand what your giving means to the nonprofits in your Giving Portfolio.

  • Over the next year, your grantees will share updates on the social good created from your contributions. You will get behind-the-scenes accounts of the exciting work of your nonprofit grantees as they take on the most significant issues facing us today. If you wish, you can further support your grantees by sharing their social media posts and amplifying their stories across your own network—a huge gift, as your public support will lend credibility to their work and open the door for others to follow your lead.

  • As the year draws to a close, you will be able to look back at your Giving Portfolio with pride, knowing the good work that you helped to co-create along with your grantee partners. We will create an annual report that tracks your philanthropic giving and meet with you to discuss your goals for the coming year. For the nonprofits you really love, we will help you step up your commitment and impact by supporting them in innovative ways, such as providing multi-year funding or offering additional flexibility in your giving. Building relationships as you build your legacy, this opportunity to pay it forward will make you a pillar of support for your grantees. You will be able to show your family members, staff, and others what it means to be a caretaker of your community and to be fully present for those who need it most.

Holistic Philanthropy

To help us communicate the “why” behind our work, we developed the Holistic Philanthropy framework. Holistic Philanthropy views funders, nonprofits, and change agents to be members of a Social Good Ecosystem in which each member is necessary, and members work collaboratively to co-create social good. The concept of an interconnected and interdependent system leads to a core value of respect for other members, as each member can only achieve their goals through collaboration with other members.

Bay Area Based, National Focus

We are based in the San Francisco Bay Area, but our network of nonprofit organizations extends across the United States.
